What's New For the 2019 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid?

Perhaps the newest feature is the overall feeling of the car: it feels like a solid vehicle. Compared to previous hybrids, the IONIQ feels as if it belongs on the highway doing 70 mph. What does that mean, exactly? It means the sedan looks, feels, and rides like a sedan. Storage space is ample, and the hatchback is broad, providing easy access to groceries or luggage. Steering is solid and commands the road. Compared to other hybrids over the years, this 2019 edition by Hyundai will be comfortable in the city, on the highway, or in the country rather than on a go-kart track.

What Trims & Features are Available on the 2019 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid

Styling is sharp and sleek. The crisp lines, the grill, and side-mounted HID lights just below the headlights all contribute to a more luxurious appearance. The design, however, is not simply aesthetic. The styling, yes, looks good, but it serves to help considerably with wind and drag, contributing to the vehicle's notable gas mileage of 57 city and 59 highway. The overall feel for the 2019 IONIQ is pleasant. For a hybrid, the four-door sedan simply does not look like a hybrid.

Notable features with the SEL trim package include heated front seats and an electric, adjustable front driver's seat. Along with the SEL trim, the Blue and the Limited trim packages offer a seven-inch Apple and Android-compatible touchscreen. This is a notable feature as the driver can simply plug in a smartphone and instantly have hands-off-phone access to GPS, music, or other apps via large touch screen mounted just above the radio.

Additional hands-off features include a cloud-hosted, voice-recognition "HERE" service. HERE provides additional navigation and GPS charging-station search features to make finding one's way easier and safer.

2019 Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid Performance

2019 Hyundai IONIQ HybridAt 104 horsepower, the IONIQ is capable of a smooth, capable highway drive. The 1.6 liter inline engine is paired with a 43 hp electric motor powered by a 1.56 kw battery. A stalwart hybrid, the vehicle's gas tank holds 11.9 gallons and can travel for up to 654 miles. On the battery alone, estimates project 29 miles, far enough, typically, to get a driver safely to a gas station where a mere 1.8 gallons will get said driver another 100 miles. Considering the electric motor, the total, combined number of horses increase to 139 hp.

What are the Safety Features on the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid?

2019 Hyundai IONIQ HybridAll 2019 trim packages offer a security system, panic alarm, and ignition disabler if key is missing. Driver safety features include seat-belt pretensioners for reduced body impact during sudden stops. For both driver and front passenger, airbags are mounted in the front and side positions. Drivers, however, enjoy even greater protection from additional knee-position airbags. Daytime running lights are standard on all trims, and for the 2019 SEL trim, automatic emergency braking helps prevent front-end collisions for speeds up to 25 mph.

Just as important as the airbags are the child seat anchors, available on all trim packages. Blind-spot monitors and active lane control technology are available upgrade options on all packages. Finally, adaptive headlights and rear parking sensors round out a host of safety technology geared to maintaining or improving upon the 2018 model's award-winning features.
