Way back in March, we told you there was a possibility the Hyundai Santa Cruz Concept that debuted at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show could go into production, and now it seems this is exactly what Hyundai is planning to do. Just recently in an interview with Motoring, Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski revealed new information about the future of the small pickup truck and it was nothing short of positive.
Many people have been waiting for a production model Hyundai Santa Cruz since the concept first debuted a year ago. Its ability to easily navigate city streets and offer hauling capabilities that will benefit young city dwellers who want to transport their bikes or head out on a weekend camping trip, made it an immediate hit at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Up until now, there hasn’t been much information regarding the Cruz’s future, but thanks to a recent interview with Motoring, we’ve now learned all that stands in our way from the vehicle is time.
“Our timing is not crossing our fingers and waiting for approval, it trying to figure out when we’re going to announce it,” Zuchowski said to Motoring.
He went on to say that is Hyundai’s headquarters in South Korea that must determine when the announcement will be made, and as of now, that’s all they’re waiting for. When the official statement is made by Hyundai, it was also revealed that the pickup will be available in multiple markets aside from just the U.S.
Likely to feature the Hyundai Tucson’s underpinnings, the Santa Cruz will help fill the growing small truck segment in North America. We can’t for its arrival at Reliable Hyundai and hope to receive an announcement about its release soon.
