Hyundai's Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept was a surprise hit when it debuted at this year's Detroit Auto Show and now there's been word that a production model of the truck could see the light of day. If Hyundai goes through with the plan, this will mark the first time the automaker has offered a truck in the U.S. market, which could be a big success for the company in the long run.

Hyundai's very own research and development director, Park Byung-cheol, confirmed to Reuters that there is a possibility the Santa Cruz Truck Concept could go into production. He admitted there would be quite a few hoops the company would have to jump through in order to make it work, but it still could happen. What makes the Santa Cruz Concept such a hit with auto enthusiasts is its ability to offer the capabilities of a CUV and the flexibility of a truck bed. Geared toward urban drivers, the truck can maneuver around the city with ease and haul a variety of items, including bikes, outdoor equipment and luggage. Although compact in size, the Santa Cruz also features five-passenger seating, along with rear-hinged rear doors for easy access to the rear seats. Combine each of these advantages with exceptional fuel efficiency and you have a CUV truck that is bound to be a success.
