On September 4 in Washington, D.C., Hyundai Hope on Wheels® held its annual gala to mark 28 years of continuous advancements in pediatric cancer research. Supported by Hyundai Motor America alongside its network of more than 855 U.S. dealership partners, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization convened congressional representatives, Hyundai leadership, scientific researchers, clinicians, childhood cancer survivors, and families. Together, attendees celebrated a historic milestone: achieving $303 million in lifetime contributions dedicated to eliminating pediatric cancer.
Expanding Global Research and Lifesaving Initiatives
Over nearly three decades, funding provided by Hyundai Hope on Wheels® has helped save more than 40,000 children affected by cancer. Following successful expansion into Australia, Canada, Korea, and Mexico, the organization is actively extending its philanthropic footprint worldwide. Future growth plans include establishing programs in Spain, Sweden, and other European markets. In addition, through the Hyundai Cancer Genomics Center in India, Hyundai Hope on Wheels® is propelling innovative genomic research designed to benefit more than 25,000 individuals.
Honoring Outstanding Leadership: The Spirit of Hope Award
The annual celebration also introduced the inaugural O'Brien/Reilly Spirit of Hope Award, created to honor co-founders Don Reilly and the late Tom O'Brien. This award acknowledges retail dealers who demonstrate outstanding community engagement, leadership, advocacy, and dedication toward advancing pediatric cancer research awareness. Nine distinguished recipients were honored during the ceremony:
