The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and the automotive industry have come together in an effort to make automatic emergency braking a standard feature on all cars by 2022. Hyundai is one of many automotive brands to step forward in support of this future development and is committed to making this a reality.

The inclusion of automatic emergency braking on all cars is expected to help reduce collisions and prevent avoidable accidents if made standard on vehicles by 2022. Offered on several models in Hyundai’s lineup today, including the 2017 Santa Fe, 2017 Santa Fe Sport, 2017 Elantra, 2016 Genesis, 2016 Sonata and 2016 Tucson, the technology is already benefiting many drivers on the road.

“Providing effective safety technology is essential for our customers,” said Mike O’Brien, vice president, corporate and product planning, Hyundai Motor America. “With all our new models, we are ushering in new standards for safety, featuring technology proven most effective in preventing accidents in the first place, and reducing injuries should an accident occur.”

Automatic Emergency Braking is a system like no other. It uses radar and cameras to detect a potential accident and warns the driver, giving them a chance to react appropriately. If the driver fails to react, the system will apply emergency braking.
