Hyundai is trying to make the lives of their drivers a little bit easier by filing a new patent for speed bump detection. By integrating the technology into their lineup, Hyundai owners will never have to worry about accidentally driving over a speed bump too fast and damaging their car in the process. The new feature could also be beneficial for new drivers who may need a little bit of assistance when tackling new obstacles, such as speed bumps, on the road.

In Hyundai's recent patent filing, the process behind the speed detection is properly laid out. The system would utilize sensors and a camera to detect speed bumps, and measure the height, width and curvature of each bump. These details would be collected by the system and determine the proper speed needed to successfully go over the speed bump, which would be presented to the driver. If a driver is going too fast, the system will flash a warning telling the driver to slow down. Due to these capabilities, the speed bump detection feature will effectively assist drivers during their daily commute.

For the time being, Hyundai has not made an official announcement about the speed bump detection system and its availability on upcoming models. However, there's a good chance the system could appear on autonomous cars in the near future.
