If fuel cell vehicles are the future, then Hyundai has quite an advantage. The brand's very own ix35 Fuel Cell model has been on the automotive radar since it went on a record-breaking run last year, traveling 434 miles on one tank of hydrogen. This year, the car was put to the test once again in Germany, where it covered 1,480 miles with zero emissions in a 24-hour time period, setting an all-new record Hyundai can be proud to boast about.
The duo who made the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell's record possible is Sports Scientist Arnt-Gøran Hartvig and Physics Master Marius Bornstein. The brains behind the ix35's record-breaking last year, Hartvig and Bornstein, set out on their latest adventure to get an idea of what the Hyundai ix35 was capable of when combining it with hydrogen fueling stations. The pair tested this by tackling a 186-mile route between a Shell hydrogen station in Berlin and a Vantenfall hydrogen station in Hamburg multiple times within 24 hours. Conquering both busy city streets and highways, the men found that the ix35 was able to complete over 1,000 miles without producing any emissions.
With a driving range of approximately 372 miles and the ability to reach 99 mph, the Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is a highly reliable vehicle. Take a look at the video below to see the car's recent record-breaking run captured by a GoPro.
