Automakers are constantly on the hunt to find new ways to improve their vehicles' emissions without sacrificing power and Hyundai recently decided to turn to turbocharged power to do exactly that. The company will be debuting a twin-turbo V6 engine that is likely to find its way onto the Hyundai Genesis by 2017/18. The change will benefit future Genesis drivers, allowing them to obtain excellent gas mileage.
By utilizing turbocharged power, Hyundai will be able to use smaller displacements in their cars, which will decrease overall weight and lead to greater fuel economy. Each Hyundai model is expected to receive turbocharged engines in order to increase EPA ratings throughout the lineup. The twin-turbo V6 will benefit the Genesis’ emissions, while also maintaining the car's ability to produce 420 horsepower, which is currently delivered by the 5.0L V8 engine. The all-new 2016 Hyundai Tucson has already been outfitted with a boosted variant: a 1.6L turbocharged, direct-injected four-cylinder engine with the ability to generate horsepower and 195 lb.-ft. of torque.
With fuel economy being a priority among drivers, more car brands are leaning toward small displacements to improve efficiency. Hyundai is the latest automaker to go this route and you can expect to see more turbocharged engines on their models in the near future.
