Hyundai Motor Advances Accessible Transportation with Innovative Mobility Solutions

On March 31st, Hyundai launched an innovative demonstration project in Dongtan, Gyeonggi-do, Korea, to unveil new accessibility enhancements across its vehicle lineup. This launch forms part of a broader initiative to boost convenience and inclusivity for all Hyundai drivers and passengers.

The project spotlight is the R1, a modular companion crafted for those with mobility challenges. These R1 vehicles feature side-door boarding, allowing passengers using mobility devices to ride comfortably alongside up to two companions. For travelers with vision or hearing impairments, the cars also offer a high-contrast interface and a rear-seat tablet to simplify communication with the driver.

Supporting the R1 is Shucle, Hyundai Motor's demand-responsive mobility service. The Shucle app allows riders to summon vehicles on demand, dramatically cutting wait times and providing precise arrival estimates based on live demand data. A new voucher system is also being rolled out for existing voucher taxi users, offering up to two free rides per day. Vouchers are delivered straight through the Shucle app, removing the need to contact a mobility support center for verification.
