The U.S. government shutdown has left many on unpaid leave and with no way to cover their expenses, including car payments. To help those who have been affected, Hyundai has decided to defer all payments for government employees who own a Hyundai and give those interested in buying a new car a 90-day deferral as the shutdown continues.
Hyundai's latest endeavor is an addition to the Hyundai Assurance program, which gained attention four years ago for assisting customers during the height of the economic crisis. Today, the program will give government employees an extension on loan and lease payments acquired through Hyundai Finance America, while they are out of work.
"We recognize the impact on family budgets that the furlough will drive," said John Krafcik, chief executive of Hyundai Motor America. "Like we did almost four years ago when we launched Hyundai Assurance, this is our way of saying 'We've got your back' during this uncertain time."
